Trip Planning - Getting to the Amalfi Coast
There are a few different ways and they are listed here in order of convenience, driving to Positano or Sorrento can be more trouble than it's worth especially as in Positano you do not need a car, you can use the ferry services and hydrofoils (high season only) to visit Sorrento, Capri, Amalfi, and there is also a bus from Amalfi to Positano, Praiano and Ravello.

If you are coming from Rome, either from the city or directly from the airport, we can arrange private car transfer to take you directly to your villa or apartment in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.
Train and Private Car Transfer
Eurostar (fast train) or Intercity train to Naples then Private Chauffered Car to meet you at the station. Check the Trenitalia website for train times, costs and bookings (the site is also in English). Then a Private Car Transfer. We recommend advance booking of a driver from Positano, to be sure you get a comfortable car and a correct price (approximately 100 Euro for the transfer from Naples to Positano). Phone
Train and Boat
Eurostar Train to Naples, then a taxi to the port and hydrofoil (high season only) Eurostar (fast train) to Naples, check the website for train times and costs (the site is also in English). Then a taxi to the port where you can take the hydrofoil to Sorrento or Positano, this service operates in high season only. Hydrofoils for Naples to Positno or Sorrento 1. Rental Car
Take the highway/autostrada A2 to Naples (Follow the signs "Penisola Sorrentina" when aproaching Naples) Follow the highway A3 from Naples in the direction of Salerno Exit at Castellamare di Stabia (This means that you NEVER HAVE TO LEAVE the highway from Rome until Castellammare, don't get mistaken by signs to Salerno near Caserta, that is another highway) Follow the signs for Sorrento until you reach Meta, then follow the signs for Positano. Please note that if you do decide to drive to Positano you will need to park in one of the paid private garages, the cost of this is around Euro 25 per day.
Fast Train and Bus
Eurostar Train to Naples, then the local train Circumvesuviana to Sorrento, then the bus to Positano. Eurostar (fast train) or Intercity train to Naples, check the website for train times and costs (the site is also in English), then the local Railway from Naples to Sorrento: Circumvesuviana, this is a local Metro line that ends in Sorrento, beware of pickpockets and note that it can be very crowded at times. This train stops in Pompeii en route to Sorrento, so if you are traveling light you may like to take the opportunity to visit. Next take the Bus Service from Sorrento to Positano, this takes around 45 minutes.
Slow Train and Bus
Intercity Train to Naples, then the local train Circumvesuviana to Sorrento, then the bus to Positano Intercity train to Naples, this is a slower and less expensive option than the Eurostar, then take the local railway from Naples to Sorrento: Circumvesuviana, this is a local Metro line that ends in Sorrento, beware of pickpockets and note that it can be very crowded at times. This train stops in Pompeii en route to Sorrento, so if you are traveling "very" light you may like to take the opportunity to visit. Next take the Bus Service SITA lines, from Sorrento to Positano, this takes around 45 minutes.
